Folk Tech Pillars
These are the areas we are organizing around. If you resonate with one in particular, reach out!

Develop in Community
Encourage and support folk tech open source and distributed developers to work in solidarity with communities. Share principles of participatory design, nothing about us without us, design justice. Help developers and projects to incorporate real needs, motives, jobs-to-be done, and relational design.

Tell the right story
Create and nurture the stories that help people envision a Folk Tech future. Cultivate creative expression and ‘marketing’ for the concept of collectively-responsible technology, open source and open culture, relational design, and distributed power. Make art, videos, zines, memes, essays, fiction, and experiences. Work with communities to show the impact of Folk Tech.

Mobilize designers & researchers
Gather experience designers, researchers, and product people to contribute to open source Folk Tech projects. Document ways UX folks can participate in Folk Tech software processes. Teach emerging designers and researchers to use participatory design processes with mentorship from senior folks.

Ecosystem solidarity
See one another as collaborators, not competitors. Share resources, learning, code. Cross-contribute to projects that are in the same space. Put interoperability at the forefront of development. Create ecosystem incubators with multiple projects and develop documentation and welcoming patterns so that more people can contribute. Convene events and meetings.
